Don’t Cheap Out On Sleep!

Many first-time hosts spend countless hours decorating the inside and outside of their homes. But they fail to think about the quality of the mattresses they will be providing. Well-rested guests are happy guests. Most people go on vacation to relax, recharge, and try to escape the distractions of everyday life that may cut their sleep short. We’ve tested a couple of options in our search to find the best Airbnb mattress.

The first message we ever received about our rental was from a guest who said she slept better on our mattress than she did on her bed at home – she liked it so much, she wanted to know where we purchased our mattress so that she could get one herself! She left a fantastic review, and turned into a repeat guest.

We have also managed short-term rentals for homeowners who had multiple complaints about their beds but never considered replacing the mattresses. We’ve had to remove numerous reviews because of it. When necessary repairs are made, like plumbing issues or a roof leak, upgrading the mattresses can be easy to put off. Once you upgrade, the reviews, and repeat business you’ll have more than makes up for the initial cost.

We’ve tried a few brands and have narrowed it down to 2 that get us the best reviews: Tuft & Needle and GhostBed.

The Winner of “Best Airbnb Mattress 2023”– The GhostBed Luxe

The GhostBed Luxe is our personal choice for the best vacation rental mattress. We’ve had dozens of comments from guests raving about the mattress in homes that use the GhostBed Luxe. They’re extraordinarily plush, reasonably priced, and delivered to your doorstep in normal packaging.

All you have to do is unbox the mattress, unroll it onto your bed frame or box spring, and cut open the packaging. The mattress expands in seconds, and you are on your way to getting great reviews! No need to visit a big mattress store and schedule a delivery.

This is especially convenient for hosts who do not live in the same city as their rental (like us). You can order it online and have your handyman or manager bring the package inside for you. Setup is fast and easy, so you can have a new vacation rental mattress without having to travel or take time off from work.

Above your budget? Make sure you consider the original GhostBed Mattress.

Runner-up: A Great Alternative– Tuft & Needle Legacy Original

Tuft & Needle ships its mattresses in a similar fashion, so it’s just as convenient and easy to setup. These get great reviews as well, though we’ve noticed they are mentioned less than our favorite choice and appeal to those who prefer a firmer mattress. You really can’t go wrong with either of these brands when purchasing the perfect Airbnb mattress.

The Best Airbnb Mattress Money Saving Alternative– Zinus Memory Foam

If you don’t want to go with a high-end mattress, you’re not out of luck. We have had great results with the Zinus Memory Foam 12-inch Mattress

Should You Spring for a Box Spring?

The answer to this is maybe. Tuft & Needle’s official stance is no, you don’t need one if your current setup has enough support. GhostBed offers their own box springs for sale that you can have shipped to you and assemble yourself. Our answer is that you should have a box spring or mattress riser only if the bed frame is very low to the ground. Guests shouldn’t have to work to get up out of bed.

Don’t Forget the Pillows and Linens!

You’ve picked the perfect Airbnb mattress, but the buck doesn’t stop there. You also want to make sure to invest in quality linens and pillows.

So spend the extra money to ensure your guests have a restful and relaxing experience. This will keep them coming back for more – and earn those 5-star reviews!
