This was an unexpected outdoor essential for us. We found that guests loved having a hose to rinse off their dirty hiking boots, skis, and snowboards. It’s also great if you allow pets. With a hose, guests can rinse them off after a hike or fill their water bowls.

Signs (depending on your house rules)

Signs can be an invaluable outdoor essential.  Most vacation rentals are non-smoking. If this is your policy, placing a “no smoking” sign near the main outdoor space works well to remind your guests. Some guests will read the smoking policy in the house rules, but smoke anyway and later claim that they weren’t aware of the rule. This way, there’s no confusion.
